Boesman's Rainbowfish - Melanotaenia boesmani All rainbowfish prefer to be in groups in long aquariums with a lot of swimming room, therefore a 36" long tank is bare minimum for the Boesman's Rainbows and some of the larger fish in the genus Melanotaenia. Planted tanks are preferable with very little to no driftwood in the habitat. Driftwood tends to soften and help to acidify the water, rainbows like water alkaline, with a pH between 7.0 and 8.0. The great news is that the Grand Rapids metro tap water (and most surrounding wells) is the perfect pH for these beautiful fish!
