Dwarf Flametail Rainbowfish - Melanotaenia parva All rainbowfish prefer to be in groups in long aquariums with a lot of swimming room, therefore a 36" long tank is bare minimum for the Dwarf Flametail Rainbows and some of the smaller fish in the genus Melanotaenia. Planted tanks are preferable with very little to no driftwood in the habitat. Driftwood tends to soften and help to acidify the water, rainbows like water neutral to slightly alkaline, with a pH between 7.0 and 8.0. The great news is that the Grand Rapids metro tap water (and most surrounding wells) is the perfect pH for these beautiful fish!
