Gymnogeophagus sp. "Yerbolita" This is one of the newer species of cichlids in the hobby. It was imported in 2008 from Uruguay with the above picture being one of the first imported males. They come from an area that is much cooler in the winter than other parts of South America. In fact when all the tropical fish were getting ill and dying during a recent freeze in Florida these guys were breeding in the outdoor ponds by the thousands! Much is to be learned about this group of fish.
