Black and White Heniochus Butterflyfish - Poor Man's Moorish Idol

Heniochus acuminatus

The Black & White Heni  is an easygoing tankmate for other fish with laid back attitudes.  Butterflyfish, for the most part, are easily bullied so it is best not to put the with overly aggressive fish.  These fish are suitable for beginners which is very unusual for butterflyfish. In fact in larger tanks, over 100 gallons groups of 3 or more of these are often seen swimming together.  The key is to get them at the same time and when small.  They do grow quickly!

Not a great reef tank inhabitant but it can be done with great care.  If attempting to put these in a reef aquarium care should be taken as some may nip at LPS corals and palys/zoas.     Variation in foods is the key to happy butterflyfish when it comes to frozen and prepared foods.  These fish should be fed small amounts several times daily and are one of the easiest fish in the hobby to feed.
