Raccoon Butterflyfish

Chaetodon lunula

The Raccoon Butterfly is an easygoing tankmate for other fish with laid back attitudes.  Butterflyfish, for the most part, are easily bullied so it is best not to put the with overly aggressive fish.  Only one Raccoon or similar butterfly per tank unless you can obtain pairs from the wild.  These fish are not suitable for beginners.   They will certainly eat coral polyps and inverts, so they shouldn't be considered reef safe.  If you are going to have long-term success with butterflyfish water quality is the key.  Butterflyfish are notorious for not accepting food! Variation in foods leads to happy butterflyfish when it comes to frozen and prepared foods stick with meaty crustaceans as the base.  These fish should be fed small amounts several times daily.
