Spanish Hogfish

(Bodianus rufus)

The Spanish Hogfish can reach a size of 16 inches.  It is a pretty good fish for a FOWLR (fish only, with live rock) set-up but absolutely not in a reef set-up.  If it crawls in the tank this fish will most likely eat it!  The same can be said for any fish that is close to mouth size for the Spanish Hogfish.  Keep it with other semi-aggressive fish that are not easily bullied! It is also a digger so all rock formations should sit on the the bottom of the aquarium or on a platform so this fish cannot dig under and topple the rocks.  This fish should be kept in a tank with at least 6 feet of swimming room with some open spaces. This fish will accept any frozen carnivore diet as well as most pellets
